Overview

This half-day, in-person course provides healthcare professionals with comprehensive training in stoma care and management. The course equips participants with the clinical skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to provide high-quality care to individuals living with a stoma. Emphasis is placed on patient support, complication management, and promoting independence and dignity.


🎯 Course Objectives

Participants will:

  • Understand the different types of stomas, including colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy

  • Learn the anatomical and physiological considerations involved in stoma formation

  • Develop practical skills in stoma care, including cleaning, dressing, and pouching techniques

  • Explore methods for preventing and managing common stoma-related complications (e.g. skin irritation, leakage)

  • Understand the emotional and psychological impact of stoma formation and the importance of sensitive patient care

  • Learn about dietary considerations and lifestyle adjustments to support stoma patients

  • Gain confidence in delivering patient and caregiver education on ongoing stoma management
