This half-day, in-person course provides healthcare professionals with comprehensive training in stoma care and management. The course equips participants with the clinical skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to provide high-quality care to individuals living with a stoma. Emphasis is placed on patient support, complication management, and promoting independence and dignity.
Participants will:
Understand the different types of stomas, including colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy
Learn the anatomical and physiological considerations involved in stoma formation
Develop practical skills in stoma care, including cleaning, dressing, and pouching techniques
Explore methods for preventing and managing common stoma-related complications (e.g. skin irritation, leakage)
Understand the emotional and psychological impact of stoma formation and the importance of sensitive patient care
Learn about dietary considerations and lifestyle adjustments to support stoma patients
Gain confidence in delivering patient and caregiver education on ongoing stoma management

Assessment: Practical demonstrations + written knowledge test
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Stoma Care and Management Certificate, valid for 2 years.
