Overview

This half-day, in-person course is tailored to help healthcare professionals understand and support individuals living with dementia. It focuses on enhancing compassionate communication, managing behavioural changes, and providing person-centred care in line with best practices.

Course Objectives

  • Understand the different types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia

  • Recognise the signs, symptoms, and progression of dementia

  • Gain insight into the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural changes associated with the condition

  • Learn effective communication strategies for engaging with individuals who have dementia

  • Understand how to create a safe, calm, and supportive environment for dementia care

  • Explore techniques for managing challenging behaviours with empathy and patience

  • Understand the crucial role of families and caregivers in dementia support and care planning

Certification
