This half-day, in-person training course is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the skills and knowledge required for the safe and effective insertion, care, and management of urinary catheters. The course emphasizes infection control, patient dignity, and best practices in line with UK healthcare standards.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Understand the indications and contraindications for urinary catheterisation
Perform catheter insertion using aseptic techniques
Identify and select appropriate catheter types for different clinical scenarios
Apply proper techniques for catheter maintenance, including cleaning and ongoing care
Manage common catheter-related complications (e.g., blockage, infection, discomfort)
Provide patient education and promote patient involvement in catheter care
Accurately document catheter use and ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols
